“Lauren and I met at Washington High School in Sioux Falls. After high school, we both went to separate colleges in two different states and worked hard to make our long-distance relationship work. We traveled hours to see each other every month for four years. Our love truly conquered.
After being together for six years, and a year and a half after college, I decided to make our relationship forever. We both love nature and Lauren loves the mountains. I had always wanted to take a road trip to the Pacific Northwest, so we planned a trip for late June 2017. Our stops included Portland, Seattle and Vancouver, Canada.
I had picked the perfect spot to propose, at Scenic Beach State Park in Seabeck, Washington. Shortly after arriving, we pitched our tent in the middle of the forest and walked down to the lake to watch the sunset. We talked for about an hour in a secluded area that overlooked breathtaking views of the Mount Olympic National Park mountains. I got done on one knee and told her why I wanted to spend the rest of my life with my best friend. She was completely surprised and, of course, said yes. We spent the rest of the night sitting around a campfire eating s’mores.”
